MASH (the Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware) is the full-scale crash-test standard that verifies a barrier actually redirects a vehicle. EN 1317 is the European equivalent. SinoBarrier roller barrier systems are crash-tested to MASH TL3 and TL4, and supplied with EN 1317 documentation for projects delivered into the EU.
What MASH test levels mean
A test level (TL) defines the vehicle and impact condition a barrier must survive. Higher levels mean heavier vehicles and faster, more severe impacts.
| Test level | Vehicle | Typical application |
|---|---|---|
| MASH TL3 | 2270 kg pickup truck at 100 km/h | Standard highways and arterial roads |
| MASH TL4 | 10,000 kg single-unit truck at 90 km/h | Expressways, high-speed and high-risk sites |
What EN 1317 adds for European projects
EN 1317 classifies a barrier by its containment level, working width and impact severity — three values that together tell you how the barrier behaves and how much space it needs. SinoBarrier supplies CE documentation alongside the test report for projects that must show EN 1317 conformance.
Which level does your project need?
- TL3 — adequate for most highway and urban road applications.
- TL4 — required for expressways, tunnels, bridge approaches and any site where trucks are part of the traffic mix.
Send the road class, the posted speed and the traffic mix, and we confirm the test level and the roller barrier configuration that meets it.
