The rolling barrier is the road-safety form of the roller barrier: a line of rotating rollers that absorbs crash energy and redirects a vehicle on impact. It is specified for expressways, tunnels, mountain roads and any alignment where a conventional guardrail would transfer too much force back into the vehicle. SinoBarrier manufactures rolling barrier systems tested to MASH TL3 / TL4.
Where a rolling barrier is the right specification
- Expressways and high-speed runs — energy absorption where vehicles travel fast.
- Tunnels and bridge approaches — redirection in confined cross-sections.
- Mountain and curve alignments — the rollers steer a vehicle along the bend instead of into it.
- Toll plazas and gore areas — protection at split points and merge lanes.
- Runaway truck ramps — supplementary containment on steep descents.
- Accident-prone sections — retrofit where crash history is concentrated.
Why the roller mechanism wins on curves
A conventional beam pushes the vehicle back toward the road at an angle that can send it across the carriageway. The rotating rollers absorb a share of the impact energy and guide the vehicle along the barrier line, which is exactly the behaviour you want on a curve or a narrow shoulder.
Specification and testing
Rolling barrier systems are supplied galvanized with roller diameter, post spacing and mounting height produced to your specification, and are crash-tested to MASH TL3 / TL4 with full documentation.
